Mosaic Madness…..

My husband gave me a gift card to the Chicago Mosaic School during the Covid days. It was freaking heaven! Imagine a room full of stained glass and tile…all colors and textures. I’ve always loved stained glass windows and lamps. The way they lit up when the light showed through, and the vibrant colors and motifs.

Here are some practice pieces from the Chicago Mosaic School.

After my class…I went a little nutso of course. I have a ton of stained glass scraps I bought off Etsy or EBay. I trimmed and glued them to old windows I had purchased.

My friends also gifted me some old windows, tile samples and a broken billiard light. I was lucky enough to get some lantern samples from my place of employment as well as broken ceramics that didn’t make the trip from overseas. The broken ceramics I broke up further to make planters for our yard in front. They are a little messy, but fun none the less.

Lantern pieces are to come. I started them and now they sit, waiting for me to come back. I get sucked into new obsessions all the time and it’s hard to break away and get back to an old project. I’m thinking of using resin instead of grout so the light can really show through, but not 100% sure yet.

I also picked up some Talavera tiles. You can buy them broken, so I bought both whole and broken batches and used them to make our coffee table more fun.

I have even more projects to share as well as some process videos. When I get going on something, I hyper focus. My brain comes up with so many ideas of how to play with techniques and mediums. Hopefully I’m back on mosaics soon.

Thanks for looking:)
